The Standard

The Standard Logo (New)

The Standard is a cohort-based program designed to holistically support the professional, academic, and personal development of MIT men from underserved communities. The Standard is open to all students regardless of race, gender, ethnicity, or national origin.

Students join as first-years or sophomores and remain active in the program until graduation.

The Standard application is now open! Deadline to apply is September 20, 2026. You can access the application here

Members have access to: 

  • Peer and career mentorship opportunities
  • Professional and personal development workshops
  • One-on-one academic advising
  • Community-building events and social gatherings
  • Leadership opportunities
  • Professional development funding and other program resources

Member responsibilities:

  • Contribute to an inclusive community built on mutual respect, openness, and brotherhood
  • Remain an active member of The Standard through graduation
  • Participate in workshops, lectures, and community-building events throughout the academic year
  • Maintain regular communication with program staff and attend required check-in meetings
  • Demonstrate satisfactory academic progress toward degree completion
