Participants in Momentum are expected to make every effort to attend all events, including classes, workshops, and all other mandatory components of the course. Momentum is an attendance and participation based class, meaning that a very large portion of your grade is directly tied to the number of events you attend. Missing events causes grades to lower, and this is important to be aware of.
Momentum is a collaborative course, with all students working on a team of 3-5 individuals to create a solution to a real-world problem. Committing to Momentum means committing to being an active team member, and engaging both leadership and active listening skills. Regular communication with all team members (and Course Assistants and OME Staff) is mandatory for this course.
Lectures for Momentum fall during the first week of IAP. The following four weeks of the course are filled with workshops, presentations, rough drafts/runs for competition day, and office hours. While not mandatory, office hours for Momentum are held by both Course Assistants and the company sponsor, and greatly enhance the course for all students. Office hours should be the first place students ask questions, and it is expected that each team member attend office hours at various times over IAP.
