Description: Interphase EDGE/x is a two-year scholar enrichment program that includes a seven-week summer program as well as an academic year component. The focus of the summer component is to introduce the MIT experience by exposing scholars to the rigors of and life at MIT. In addition, the Interphase EDGE/x curriculum is uniquely designed to impart pivotal concepts that will increase long-term academic success. In other words, the program will not only give students an “edge” on their MIT experience, it will also catalyze their success beyond MIT. During the summer and academic year, scholars will participate in a range of personal and educational development seminars and activities designed to ensure their smooth transition to college life. Through the academic year component, scholars will continue to build upon the relationships created during the summer by attending bi-weekly meetings with their Interphase EDGE/x advisor and monthly professional and academic enhancement events. They will also participate in programs that will expose them to various career pathways.

Note to Applicants: Interphase EDGE/x is looking for students who are committed to academic success and to building a community.

Eligibility: In order to apply to Interphase EDGE/x you must:

  • Be admitted to the incoming freshmen class at MIT
  • Be a citizen or permanent resident of the United States or a DACA recipient
  • Demonstrate commitment to building a community of Interphase EDGE scholars
  • Submit an online application that includes a letter of recommendation and short answer questions

Underrepresented students (1st Generation, rural, Black/African-American, Hispanic/Latino, American Indian, and Alaskan Native) with an interest in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics are highly encouraged to apply.

Application requirements

  • Meet eligibility criteria outlined above
  • Submit online application and all related materials by the final deadline which is Monday, May 3, 2021 @ 12pm EST
  • Enroll at MIT prior to the Interphase EDGE/x decision date of Tuesday, May 18, 2021 @ 12pm EST

Online Application Opens on Wednesday, March 17, 2021

Online Application Closes on Monday, May 3, 2021 @12pm EST (It is highly recommended that you start the application by Monday, April 26, 2021)

Notifications will be emailed around Tuesday, May 18, 2021 @ 12pm EST

 

Deadline for all selected applicants to accept/decline their space in the program is 12pm EST on Friday, May 18, 2021.

 

Application Disclaimer: 

Applying to the Interphase EDGE/x Program is a separate and independent process from applying for admission to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) incoming freshman class. In order to participate in Interphase EDGE/x, you MUST be an enrolling first-year student at MIT. Your decisions regarding applying to and participating in Interphase EDGE/x will have NO impact on your admission to MIT. 

 

How to Apply:

Please follow the following steps to apply for the Interphase EDGE program.

  1. Before filling out an Interphase EDGE/x application, you must first request an OME account. Click HERE.
  2. Once you have submitted an account request, you will recieve an email within 1–3 days confirming your account creation. Follow the instructions in the email to change your password.
  3. To access the Interphase EDGE/x 2021 Application, log in to your OME account. Click the tab labeled "Programs and Services", click on "Interphase EDGE" on the left side bar, click "Interphase EDGE 2021 Application".
  4. Fill out and submit your Interphase EDGE/x 2021 Application by Monday, May 3, 2021.
  5. Ask a recommender to fill out the "Interphase EDGE/x 2021 Scholar Recommendation Form" by May 3, 2021. The recommendation form is also located on the left side bar of the Interphase EDGE webpage, or you may click HERE. Your recommender will receive an email confirming their submission. Please note there is a 250-word minimum, and the IP/x staff requests the recommendation speak to your substance beyond academics.
